The gaming retail trend towards outlandish “limited edition” collectible editions reached a new peak today with the announcement of the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. Come March 24, you’ll be able to put down $60 for Xbox One or PS4 versions of Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and their assorted DLC in a single collection. If you’re feeling especially extravagant, though, you can lay down $399 on a limited “Claptrap-in-a-box Edition” that includes a “life-sized,” one-wheeled, remote-controlled version of everyone’s favorite annoying robot.
As shown in a darling prototype video, the gyroscopically stabilized Claptrap robot is controlled via an iOS or Android app, which can also be used to activate “a library of adorable and desperate phrases” from Claptrap’s speakers. That glowing cyclops eye on the unit isn’t just for looks, either—the robot includes a working camera that can stream live video to the user’s mobile device. 2K is only making 5,000 of these Special Edition packages across all countries and platforms, packing them in a steel case with lithographs of all 12 Vault Hunters available in the game.
